BEIJING, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

RABAT -- Morocco registered 4,178 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the tally of infections in the North African country since March 2 to 340,684, the health ministry said in a statement.

The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in Morocco increased to 289,808 after 5,312 new ones were added.

SANTIAGO -- Chile on Thursday reported 97 daily deaths from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the highest number of fatalities in a single day since Sept. 24, raising the total death toll to 15,235.

In the same 24 hours, tests detected 1,564 new cases of infection, pushing the accumulated caseload to 545,662, the Ministry of Health said.

OTTAWA -- Canada's COVID-19 cases surpassed the 350,000 level on Thursday afternoon as the country confirmed a total of 351,133 COVID-19 cases and 11,776 deaths, according to CTV.

The cumulative number is high and many areas are experiencing rapid growth and these cumulative numbers show the overall burden of COVID-19 illness to date, said Canadian Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam in a statement on Thursday.

GENEVA -- The number of COVID-19 cases reported worldwide has surpassed 60 million as of Thursday afternoon (17:38 GMT), reaching 60,074,174, with 1,416,292 coronavirus-related deaths, according to the latest figures from the World Health Organization (WHO).

The United States continued to report the highest numbers of confirmed cases and deaths, 12,441,925 and 257,825, respectively. India reported 9,266,705 confirmed cases and 135,223 deaths, and Brazil with 6,118,708 confirmed cases and 170,115 deaths.
