Inshore Rescue Boat stations across Ontario open for 2026 recreational boating season

May 13, 2026 - Ottawa - National Defence / Canadian Coast Guard

The Canadian Coast Guard's seasonal inshore rescue boat stations across Ontario are now open for the 2026 season. Stations are located at:

  • Britt (Georgian Bay)
  • MacTier (Georgian Bay)
  • Hill Island (St. Lawrence River)
  • Corunna (St. Clair River)
  • Mitchell's Bay (Lake St. Clair)
  • Long Point (Lake Erie)

These stations will remain open until September 9, 2026.

Inshore rescue boat stations are primarily crewed by post-secondary students hired and trained by the Canadian Coast Guard. They provide additional maritime search and rescue service during the busy summer recreational boating season.

Waterways remain very cold at this time of year and take much longer to warm up when compared to the air. Boaters are reminded to take necessary precautions when near or on waterways. Transport Canada's Safe Boating Guide (PDF, 4.8 MB) is an excellent source of information in preparation for the recreational boating season.

Emergencies on the water can be reported 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by using channel 16 via marine VHF radio or by calling the regional emergency line: Report a search and rescue incident
